INNOVATE OR DIE, RE-ECHOED!
By now the keynote address by Biodun Shobanjo (frpa), Chairman of Troyka Group should begin to make meaning in the hearts of practitioners of Out-of-Home advertising. Interesting Shobanjo delivered a similar address at the 2006 OAAN Poster Awards at the same venue, Eko Hotels and Suites.
Obviously not a coinsidence that the same man would ten years down the line, be reiterating the same message to the industry that look to be in serious need of thinking outside the box. The Chairman of Troyka Group that owns two Outdoor Advertising companies, in his keynote address advocated in clear terms that the industry should consider merger and acquisition. The entire industry can still recall that in similar version, Shobanjo had recommended same ten years ago.
However, the difference between the 2006 episode and the 2016 episode can be said to be in the passage of time with several occurrences in between. One occurrence worthy of mention is that the protagonist himself has shown leadership by example. Today, the Troyka Group and the Publicis Group have merged into become a single entity here in Nigeria. In a related manner, the two Outdoor advertising companies (Promoworld and Optimum Exposures) amongst the several group of companies under Troyka recently merged to become Serengety.
As the saying goes, only time would tell if the merger and acquisition would become the trend to watchout for in the industry.
